THE SAINT IN FINLAND

The Saint paperback I wrote to tie-in with the Val Kilmer film was translated into Finnish. I didn't even hear about it until today. Does this mean I get more money? No.  Due to some quirk in my contract I don't make a cent off of foreign translations -- I am supposed to get four free copies of the book, and that's it. I never got even one free copy of the Finland edition.  I don't think it would be particularly wise from an author/publisher relationship perspective (despite this being my only book for Pocketbooks) to complain about it.   If you read Finnish, get the book and tell me if it is anything like the original.

PALM SPRINGS BOOK FESTIVAL: May 4th I will be on the panel discussion "Keeping Murder Fresh."  My answer is "Kill them with an overdose of Summer's Eve"

More than 150 authors are anticipated. Exhibitors include small independent bookstores, publishers, local authors and local literary nonprofits and poetry groups.

The fair will include author panels, live poetry and storytelling, cooking demonstrations and writing workshops.

The festival is open to the public. All proceeds benefit the Art Institute of Palm Springs High School. Be there or be square!

Collector's edition. A much nicer edition than the standard one, which had a few computer-generated typos. This is number 26 of 600 copies signed by the author. This book is in mint unread condition. There is a tiny crease at the bottom right of the cover, too small to show here. This book is now becoming very hard to acquire and very expensive.

The Saint's new Car:

According to my pal, Bill Macdonald, Simon Templar will drive a new Maserati in the forthcoming SAINT TV pilot film.  Not a bad choice for as Saintly vehicle.  A bit out of my personal price range, and I doubt I can trade my '65 Volvo 1800E straight across for one.  The  Saint always had an affection for fast cars -- after all, his legendary Hirondel (aka King of the Road) could actually go 90 mph!

MOSCOW HUMAN RIGHTS: No, not Moscow Russia -- Moscow, Idaho!
I just returned from the action oriented human rights conference at the University of Idaho where I was the keynote speaker. Naturally, I made friends with my tasteful non-offending remarks:
"A priest, a pedophile, and a rapist walk into a bar -- and that's just the first guy!"
(rim shot!)
Then I told some other equally offensive jokes. While they were busy searching for strong rope for an impromptu lynching, I asked a gentleman if he wanted to be more forgiving. "Sure," he said, mustering his most effusive spirituality. "Good," I replied, "because I'm sleeping with your wife!"

Point: In order to be forgiving, you must have something to forgive!! 
No kidding. Want to be more patient? Stand in the longest line at the grocery store.
It all worked out fine, and by the time we escaped with our lives, they had forgiven me, paid me, and given me hugs!  It was wonderful!
I had it easy -- the conference workshops were conducted by hard working brilliant experts on diverse diversity topics who were all spectacular.
