The County of Los Angeles Public Library doesn't have one single book by Burl Barer. The Los Angeles Public Library, however, has six books by Burl Barer. Confused? Don't be. It's simple. The city of Los Angeles has public libraries. The County of Los Angeles also has public libraries. They are not the same system.
Here is the difference: The County of Los Angeles Public Library was established in 1912 under authority of the County Free Library Act. Today it is one of the major libraries of our nation, and provides library service to over 3.5 million residents living in unincorporated areas and to residents of 51 of the 88 incorporated cities of Los Angeles County. The service area extends over 3,000 square miles. Supplementing the 7.5 million volume book collection, the Library also offers magazines, newspapers, government publications and many specialized materials including online databases. BUT...the only book by someone named BARER is my cousin Shlomo's 1959 book, The Six Day War.
The Los Angeles Public Library is ..well, the public library for people who live in Los Angeles. These libraries have books by Burl Barer. Not all my books, but six of them. God bless the Los Angeles Public Library.
