It is 7am, and I just got out of bed after crawling under the covers at 5:30am. I can't sleep -- I have flesh demons and reanimates on my mind. Matt Cahill, aka THE DEAD MAN, hero of the spectacular series of supernatural thrillers created by Lee Goldberg and Wm. Rabkin, has to stop a contingent of horrific undead and "flesh demons" with canibalistic tendencies and poor social habits from devouring the entire town of Bisbee, Arizona. No, I'm not reading this adventure, I'm writing it. I've been reading the other adventures in the series, and they are so damn good that I am intimidated. Each of the contributing authors has his or her own unique style and approach, although there is consistency in the basics of Matt's character and the how he deals with his ability to "see evil."
I'm coming up on the climax of the adventure -- you know, where the hero saves the day..or in this case, Bisbee, Arizona by midnight. The ending, I have often advised people, is so important that you should have it in your mind before you even begin. I must remember to tell myself that someday. Oh, I know what is supposed to happen, and it will...but I want you to believe it...believe that there are two forms of demons about to erupt volcano like from the bowels of Bisbee, that there is a way to stop it, and that even if our hero isn't empowered to do so, he is capable of putting the elements together. Oh, and I want a few good laughs, enough perversity to keep even Tod Goldberg entertained, and some really strong female characters who have more going for them than nice racks and boucoup bucks. Villain? Oh, he's big huge charming grotesque rotten and amiable depending on how he's viewed, and by whom.
So, I got out of bed and re-read what I wrote between midnight and 5:30am. The road to hell is paved with re-writes. There is no turning back now...it's almost midnight in Bisbee...the ground is shaking from the force of evil about to break through....everyone is some demon's blue plate special unless...unless.....
Don't worry. It will all be okay. I know the author.
