Professor Thomas Horan offers new revelations about the Zodiac Killer!
You've heard of the Zodiac Killer -- you probably saw the hit movie.
NOW -- what if much of the Zodiac story is a hoax, a clever fabrication?
In 1976, Chronicle darkroom expert Robert Smith, Jr began shopping around his manuscript for a book about the Zodiac Killer. In his book, and in interviews, Smith never mentioned that HE was the one handling and photographing every Zodiac letter and piece of Stine's bloodstained shirt. Just to be sure that no one found out the truth, he changed his name to Robert Graysmith.
Saint Louis, Missouri professor and researcher Thomas Henry Horan announced today that newly discovered documents prove the identity of the person who wrote the infamous “Zodiac Killer” letters to the San Francisco Chronicle.
“The handprinting turned out to be a complete match. I was stunned,” said professor Horan. “Everyone is going to be stunned.”
The “Zodiac Killer” wrote letters to the San Francisco Chronicle and other newspapers taking credit for the murders of five young people in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960s. In 1986, graphic artist Robert Graysmith published a bestselling book on the letters and murders, ZODIAC, which was later made into a movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey, Jr. According to Graysmith, evidence proved that the letters could only have been written by the actual murderer.
“Other researchers have claimed to find suspects with similar hand writing,” Horan explained. Each of these suspects has turned out not to be the killer, including Arthur Leigh Allen and most recently, Earl Best, Jr. “But this person not only had undisputed direct knowledge of the murders, his handprinting is also a perfect match.”
Did Horan’s suspect commit the murders? “If the person calling himself The Zodiac and writing these letters to the newspapers actually committed the murders, then yes, I'd have to say he was the Zodiac Killer. The handprinting matches perfectly.”
Thanks again to Burl and Howard for having me on the show!
According to the actual police department files from the original “Zodiac” murder cases, Robert Graysmith not only lied to the public, he in fact obstructed justice. Graysmith knew that the Zodiac Killer letters to the newspapers were a hoax—and he knew who wrote them. You can learn more here:
