If I did anything in this past year that caused you dismay, please forgive me.
You are not obligated to forgive me, but I am obligated to ask you three times to forgive me.
If you refuse to forgive me, that's your problem, not mine. If you are Christian, remember that the famous Jewish guy, Jesus, said 'Forgive those who trespass against you..." Wise advice because holding resentment is like drinking poison.
Speaking of Jesus, he can forgive you for things you did to him, but not things you did to me. If you stole Jesus' bike, go ask Jesus to forgive you. If you stole my bike, you ask me to forgive you, not Jesus or Raul or your sister. You didn't steal their bike, so why would you ask them to forgive you for what you did to me? You wouldn't unless you were irrational, which may explain why you did something so stupid as to steal my bike in the first place!
The idea here is to clean up any wreckage from the past year and start with a clean slate Saturday, sundown.
It is one thing to apologize, it is another thing to atone. Atone means to make it right....it's one thing to say "Gee, I want to apologize for stealing your rent money," but unless you give me the money back, you have not atoned.
Get it? Got it. Good.
